The Journey
Chris's journey as a musician traces back to his religious roots. His grandparents raised him Baptist. All of his life. He was exposed to nothing but gospel music.
I grew up in a Baptist church and a Baptist house. I rarely ever listened to anything but gospel music." But then he recalls a few exceptions on some Saturday nights at his grandparents house. He and his family would listen to a little blues airing over the radio, but not much since they primarily focused on gospel.
He recalls back to his church days... I could hear a soprano part in the choir, and I instantly could sing it and teach it. I have really good ears.
So when I was 12, I went from playing guitar to teaching choir parts and training voices. I soon found myself being in the music directors position. After that I had to be able to fiddle around with the organ/piano to teach a choir part," he added. For many years his church choir consisted of a drummer, guitar player, and a bass. However, there was no organ player around, and Chris knew that something needed to be done about that.
